Independence Day. Live Transmission. 2009

The celebrations, in which the Belarusian president takes part, are very officious and over-organized ones, so that ordinary people involved into events cannot express their wishes/emotions on their own. The same is with journalists and photographers, which should stay in a special zone for taking pictures of an event. Happily, the very main state celebrations are always broadcasted on the state TV channels. It gives a good chance to a viewer to see very different sites where an event is going on and to take photographs from a TV screen with any scenes and any people inside. Editors of any live transmission cannot physically control all details inside TV frames, so one has a good chance to observe more or less realistic picture with high-hat persons. All these strange details, scenes and personages usually are deleted by editors later for final TV reportages.

Uladzimir Parfianok spent a few hours in front of his TV set during live transmission of the celebration of The Day of Independence on the 3^rd of July, 2009 taking photographs from the screen and in this way uncovering faces of people evolving function of ornaments and these faces are not always happy.

Uladzimir Parfianok

was born in 1958 in Kiev. Since mid-1980s, he has been working in the field of creative photography. He was participant of the numerous group photographic and art exhibitions in Belarus and abroad starting from 1986.1991—2002 he was an editor of the art photography department in Mastatstva (Art) magazine, also he is one of the founders of Pravintsyja informal association of creative photography, founder and editor of Belarusian photographic web-almanac “Photoscope”, art director and curator of NOVA gallery of visual arts, member of the Belarusian Union of Designers (since 2002) also he teaches photography in Minsk Centre of photography.
